A Personal Reflection on the Spider-Man Film Franchise
I still remember waking up early one morning and asking my grandfather for a ride to the Regal Cinema in Garden Grove. I was sixteen-years old and it was the first week of May back in 2002. The only thought on my mind was making it in time for the first showing of Spider-Man.
Looking back on that movie 12 years later, I can hear the creaks and pops in its joints and see a few crow’s feet around its eyes. The special effects–specifically the CGI Spider-Man model–is rather rubbery and almost cartoonish at times. The Green Goblin’s first public appearance and attack during a crowded parade in New York lacks any sense of gravitas as the superimposed Goblin shrinks and grows and zips away.
